Krummel Captures CRSA Sprints Win at Penn Can

(Penn Yan, N.Y.) – The Super Gen Products CRSA Sprints featuring Champion Power Equipment made their way to Susquehanna, Pennsylvania to the Penn Can Speedway Friday, May 20th. This was the first of three scheduled stops on tour for the CRSA Sprints. With beautiful May weather setting in for the day it was a prelude to great racing action that was going to take place on the speedway later that night.

Dan Harpell and his entire track maintenance staff worked feverishly at the beginning of the race night to give the racers the best racing surface. Heat racing action kicked off with Sidney Center, N.Y.’s Dana Wagner grabbing the win in the first heat. Scott Goodrich didn’t make a heat race, having to diagnose and fix a fuel pump issue.

Josh Flint and Mike Kiser led the field to Kenny Marshall’s green flag for heat two. Kiser held off Flint for the win. Unfortunately for #91 Dan Hennesey, his heat race action would end short, as he would be taken back to the pit area on the hook with front-end damage sustained in an incident.

Dustin Purdy and Thomas Radivoy brought heat three to the green flag. Purdy led from green to checkers, claiming the heat win.

The CRSA Sprints redraw saw Dalton Herrick and Kyle Smith picking the front row for the start of the nights A-Main. In true sprint car racing fashion, the drivers saluted the fans in attendance with the traditional 4-wide salute down the front stretch. The Super Gen Products CRSA Sprints featuring Champion Power Equipment were ready to do battle for 25 laps. Herrick and Smith led the field out of turn four to the green flag. Penn Can Speedway gave the drivers some tough challenges with its high banked corners and short straightaways, thus producing some on track insidences. Multiple quick spins kept the action tight. The last incident of the night would see the red flag being displayed as a car had spun low in turn number three, leaving no where to go for the 1Q of Thomas Radivoy. Radivoy clipped the rear bumper of the spun sprint car, causing his own car to spin and hop simultaneously causing the car to flip over to the driver’s side. CRSA and track officials were on the scene within seconds of the flip and confirmed Radivoy was unhurt in his car. The car did not appear to suffer any major damage, however it was determined that a right rear flat tire was going to end the night for Radivoy.

After the track was cleared of the incident in turn 3, the field was re-fired and reassembled per scoring in the tower. Eddie Strada would lead the field off of turn number four and would take the green flag with 22 laps in the books and three laps remaining. As if the first 22 laps weren’t exciting enough, the bleachers became standing room only for the conclusion of the race. Coming off of turn 4 coming down to the two laps to go signal, Brian Krummel would put a “slider” slide job on the 42e of Strada to claim the lead. Once Krummel hit the clean air, he would never look back, picking up his first Super Gen Products CRSA Sprints featuring Champion Power Equipment A-Main victory of the 2016 season. Last week’s winner Eddie Strada came from his 12th place starting position to finish second. The big mover of the night showed to be Scott Goodrich in his number 30, coming from 17th starting position after failing to make his heat race, fighting back for a podium finish in third place. Fourth place went to the 41j of Josh Flint, and taking home fifth place after going tail for early spin was the 07 of Brett Jaycox. Sixth through tenth place was 6th 4s Johnny Smith, 7th 19em Emily VanInwegen, 8th 99 Mike Kiser, 9th Dalton Herrick, and 10th 25w Dana Wagner.
