JOSH FLINT WINS FIRST EVER CRSA FEATURE AT ALBANY SARATOGA
Malta, NY…On a great night for racing the CRSA Sprint Tour came to the Albany Saratoga Speedway in the Capital District of New York. A great field of sprint cars signed for the first appearance of the season at the Malta oval. Josh Flint of Cherry Valley, New York has been having a steady season thus far in 2015. Friday night things changed as Flint started on the outside pole and lead every lap to win his first ever CRSA feature holding off local favorite Josh Pieniazek for the hard fought win.
Flint and Emily VanInwegen brought the twenty two car field to the green flag to start the twenty five lap feature. Flint jumped out front with Pieniazek moving into the second spot. The first of only two cautions flew on lap five bringing the field together with Flint, Pieniazek, King, John Matrafailo, and Mike Kiser the top five.
With the green back out Flint resumed control. The second caution came out for a slowing car on lap eight. Kyle Smith retired for the night. With the green coming back out Flint took off followed closely by Pieniazek, King, and John Matrafailo. The fast track made for exciting racing throughout the field. By lap fifteen the leaders were in heavy lapped traffic using the entire track dicing for position.
With twenty laps down Flint was still out front. Lap after lap Pieniazek would try getting a run but wasn’t able to make the pass. Flint kept control over the final five circuits and took his first ever CRSA Sprint Tour win. Pieniazek held on for second followed by King, Matafailo, and Dalton Herrick.
SPRINT NOTES: Kelly Hebing made her first CRSA start of the season and came away with a fine eleventh place finish good for the Magsarus Hard Charger Award. The Schaeffer Racing Oil Heat Winner Bonuses went to Chad King, Dalton Herrick, Mike Kiser. The staff at Albany Saratoga had the track in great condition giving the sprint drivers a very fast track come feature time. Emily VanInwegen started in the pole position but pulled to the infield on lap one. She rejoined the field on lap four and completed the remaining laps. The CRSA Tour returns to action in two weeks at the I-88 Speedway in Afton, New York.
