(SUSQUEHANNA, PA) – Tim Iulg shocked the A-Verdi Storage Containers CRSA Sprints powered by Super Gen Products field at Penn Can Speedway Friday night. Shocked in that, nobody likely saw Iulg being an entrant much less a race-winning contender, but those that know him well won’t be surprised one bit.

Iulg and team made the tow from Bridgeton, New Jersey to Susquehanna, PA while having an off weekend with the MASS Tour- they made it pay off on night one. They bagged a cool thousand dollar top prize with several other events on their Independence Day Weekend schedule if weather cooperates.

Local competitor “Crew Chief” Cliff Pierce and Tyler Chartrand led the field to Tyler Groescup’s green flag with Chartrand taking the early race advantage. Chartrand would lead up through the half way point of the race, while Iulg, third place starting Thomas Radivoy and defending CRSA Sprints champion Dalton Herrick all battled in tow.

Jordan Hutton, Billy VanInwegen and Tomy Moreau had to start ninth, tenth and eleventh and had to dig deep just to break into the Top 5 on this night. Moreau nearly went end over end in turn four on the second lap of the race and lost at least ten positions- he would rally back to a sixth place finish.

A yellow flag just past halfway would put Iulg and Radivoy and the tail tank of Chartrand for a single-file restart. Chartrand would jump back out to the lead on Lap 15 but would suffer a terrible break in turn two as he lost the handle on the car and spun in front of the field. The driver out of Stephentown, NY would drive back to fifteenth but will leave Pennsylvania wondering what could have been.

This put Iulg on the point to take on all challengers for the remaining ten laps. Several caution flags, including one with just two laps remaining, put Iulg through his paces trying to change up his restarts to keep Radivoy and the rest of the field at bay. One of those yellows collected the second, third and fourth place cars, however all drivers would continue on.

Radivoy admitted post-race that he lost the brakes on the No. 1Q early in the race. While Radivoy could keep pace with Iulg, not having brakes on a tight oval at Penn Can proved to be too tall a task to make a run at the lead and the win.

Iulg would etch his name in the CRSA Sprints history books, which now lists 77 different winners across 18 different seasons of competition including 2023. Radivoy somehow made it last to the end without brakes to come home second. Herrick got a piece of the spinning car toward the end of the race but was able to hang on for the final spot on the podium.

Point leader Hutton held off VanInwegen to fill out the remainder of the Top 5.

“We’ve never been up here to run but we had some time off from the MASS Series and said hey let’s go play with the boys in New York,” said Iulg after an emotion-filled wing dance in Penn Can Speedway Victory Lane.

“Now we’re playing with house money on the rest of this trip. Hopefully we can have a few more good runs before the Fourth of July on Tuesday.”

Cliff Pierce had a career run finishing in seventh- earning him the Maguire Family of Dealerships “Magnificent Move of the Race.”

Nathan Pierce quietly worked through the field to gain seven positions to collect the Powertech Powdercoating Hard Charger of the race.

The CRSA Sprints will now head to Thunder Mountain Speedway Sunday July 2, Land of Legends Raceway Monday July 3 and Outlaw Speedway on Friday July 7.
