VANINWEGEN CLAIMS SECOND CRSA FEATURE OF 2015 AT I-88 SPEEDWAY

Oneonta, NY…The CRSA Sprint Car Tour completed its southern tier swing at I-88 Speedway with a rare mid-week appearance at the Afton, New York oval. This completed a stretch of three races in five nights for the touring series. Another strong field of CRSA sprints turned out for a Tuesday night of winged racing. Emily VanInwegen of Sparrowbush, New York started her night off in fine fashion picking up a heat race win. Then she compounded that win into her second CRSA Sprint Tour win of the season in a hard fought battle over the last five laps with Joe Kata of Goshen.

VanInwegen and local favorite Dana Wagner lead the twenty three car sprint car field to Kenny Marshall’s green flag. VanInwegen and Wagner jumped out to the top spot with Mike Kiser and Dustin Purdy in tow. The car on the move during the early stages of the race was the sprinter of Joe Kata moving into the top five from his eleventh starting position.

The first caution of the event came on lap sixteen for a tangle on the homestretch. This brought the lead cars back to the pack. On the ensuing restart VanInwegen was at the point with Kata now in second followed by Wagner, Kiser, Jaycox, and Dalton Herrick. VanInwegen shot to the lead being chased by the pack of strong sprint cars only to be stopped for a red flag on lap nineteen for the soft roll-over by Chad Miller.

With the green back out VanInwegen and Kata fought a fierce battle down to the checkered flag with VanInwegen holding off Kata for the hard fought win. Kiser, Wagner, and Jaycox rounded out the top five.

SPRINT NOTES: Heat race wins went to Josh Pieniazek, David French and Chad Miller, with Joe Kata winning the dash. Congratulations to David French for winning your first ever CRSA Heat!! Twenty three sprint cars signed into the pits for the night shared by the ESS Sprints and the 600cc sprints. Mathew Jones made his first CRSA start of the season. Point leader Josh Pieniazek had trouble finding the groove with a fourteenth place finish tightening the point race. The Tour returns to action at the Thunder Mountain Speedway on Saturday September 5th.
