BRIAN KRUMMEL WINS SECOND FEATURE OF THE SEASON AT I-88 SPEEDWAY

Afton, NY…It was a strange and unusual night at the I-88 Speedway in Afton, New York. As the usual heat races were taking place, a sportsman competitor’s racer veered of the racing surface and cut down a power pole supplying power to the front stretch lights. While the track crew worked to restore power, the CRSA Sprint feature was called to the track hoping to complete the race in daylight conditions.

Series officials used the heat race draw to line up the sprint cars for their twenty five lap feature. JR Hurlburt and young rookie Tyler Jashembowski lead the cars to Kenny Marshall’s green flag. Dustin Purdy was the man on the move early in the event moving onto the Hurlbert’s rear bumper. With the top two setting a wicked pace, the cars of Brian Krummel, Tyler Jashembowski, and Tom Radivoy battled each for the third position. At the ten lap mark Purdy and Hurlburt were side by side for the lead. Lap after lap the two battled until disaster struck for the top two on lap twelve when Purdy and Hurburt jumped wheels sending Purdy flipping in turn three bringing out the red flag. Purdy walked away shaken but uninjured. Both cars retired from action giving the lead to Krummel.

When action resumed Krummel took the top spot over the lapped car of Emily VanInwegen, Jashembowski, Radivoy, Josh Flint, Brett Jaycox, and John Matrafailo. The only caution of the race came on lap twenty three for the spinning car of Sean Kirkpatrick. When action resumed, Krummel stayed strong holding off all challenges and brought his sprinter to Victory Lane for the second time in his rookie CRSA season. Jashembowski came home second for his best ever CRSA finish with Flint, Radivoy, and Matrafailo rounding out the top five.

SPRINT NOTES: Club officials and race teams extend appreciation to Jamie Page for allowing the sprint feature to be run first while repairs were made to the lighting. John Matrafailo was the Magasarus Hard Charger starting in the eighteenth spot and finishing fifth. Brian Kummel becomes only the second CRSA driver with multiple feature wins this season. The top spot in points changed again this week with Kyle Smith taking the point lead by three points over Dalton Herrick and five points over Josh Pieniazek. The CRSA Series moves to the Orange County Fair Speedway next Saturday.
